  2. While I still don't believe all the stat's, this DOES show a delay in response. With BLS (800) RA's closed, Paramedic RA's are forced to take BLS patients to the hospital, resulting in the PM RA being out of service for an hour, leaving a huge gap in Paramedic Transport services. This is happening ALL over the City. I noticed a comparison to San Francisco. We are NOT SF. We are also NOT County, New York OR Chicago. Compare THEIR population to ours, THEIR staffing to ours. I have that data. Simply put, the Mayor demanded a reduction in budget from the LAFD, resulting in a decrease in staffing and a less effective Fire Department. The members in the field cringe when we are on a call and another call is placed in our district. We can only be on one call at a time. We are a "standing army", ready to answer any call, at any time. Last earthquakes here were 71 and 94, were due. Japan had a 6.2 today. We have not YET had a significant terrorist attack... When, where and how bad are the only variables. When it happens, and we are put into "Recall", it could take HOURS to get SOME of the members ready to deploy. Increased death and property loss is a GIVEN with LESS resources. It is unavoidable. So far, only a few small but critical examples have been given. There will be more, and hopefully not on a larger scale. Interesting to note that NOW (some) of the real stat's are going out, there is a "political soft shoe" dance going on. The members in the field HATE the reduced staffing. Not a single silver badge is happy about it. Not being properly staffed to perform our tasks and do our job ISN'T what we signed up for. It's painful knowing that proper staffing may have resulted in a better outcome for the people we are paid to protect. Restore our staffing or more people will die and more property will be lost. Hopefully it won't be yours or your family.

  3. The stats are the stats. The stats we built are from raw incident data using Excel. They have been vetted by several news agencies and others.

As a side note: It is very reassuring knowing that you all are our "standing army." We just need a larger army.

  4. The stat's are real. It is the integrity of the "raw" data that is in question. How it is calculated, other ways to look at the data and how it is being read are important area's of concern. This was exemplified in the media with the admitted misleading of the previous numbers and response goals. The field KNOWS of the delays, FEELS the delays and knows the price the public is paying. We pay for it too. It isn't the level of service we want to provide, nor is it the level of service the public deserves.

  5. The raw data is one line per incident. Each incident has response times associated with it (first resource enroute, first resource on scene...) The stats are calculated from the raw incident data. There did not appear to be any raw incident data missing baed on time stamps and incident IDs.

The question you might be asking is if the listed response times measure from the time the 911 call is received or from dispatch... We will check and provide an answer.

  6. A very important factor is the Time to ALS Rescue on scene. On a fire resource, we can only do so much. With the closures of so many "800" RA's, the ALS RA's are handling more of the BLS transport, thereby tying them up and causing a ripple effect throughout the City. This is a CONSTANT delay. With some of the Task Forces shutting down either the Engine or Truck, the Assessment Medic remains but on almost ALL EMS runs, the RA and Assessment Fire Resource goes, leaving NO back-up for the district. Before staffing closures, at a full staffed Task Force, the BLS fire resource and ALS RA went on medical runs, leaving a remaining resource for medical and fire emergencies. Might want to check how long the delay is now for on-scene paramedic (ALS) RA's.

  7. Paramedic RA's should be staffed first, we need more of them before Eng's or LF's.
When we have our brush fires, our paramedic staffed Engines will be committed to the Brush Fires. But I do prefer to be on a paramedic eng, because transporting patients dealing with hospital staff, EMS Capts EPCR and insuring our policies are followed, so the City isn't sued, it's like a Ninja Obstacle Course. Give the RA guys a break, let them catch their breath in between calls and get them out of the COOKING ROTATION..Food shouldn't be in the RA anyway its unclean.

  8. it's great DWP is finally paying LAFD,25 Dollars per hydrant.
56 hydrants tested equals 1400 Dollars or one ALS PATIENT and 36 hydrants tested, equals 900 Dollars or a BLS PATIENT.
We need more ALS and 800 RA's together we can help the City get out of this budget mess and get our staffing back..

  9. We need more stop light sensors, on our rigs, we will get there faster, if all the lights are green...The city of Torrance has them....

  10. Several years ago when I was OCDS, I dispatched to a Bird in the tree call, I said sir we don't send Fire resources for that...The Reporting Party, stated, I donate to adopt a station, so come get my 1500 bird out of the tree. The Floor Captain told me to send the dispatch...
My point is TF37 was committed to a dumb call, Poly was gone by the time we got there and it all started with MPDS our dispatch protocols, that we don't say no.
